Gingera lifts Columbus over Knoxville, 2-1Knoxville Civic Coliseum Sat, Feb 07, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Columbus Cottonmouths relied on the scoring touch of Matt Gingera, who netted two goals, to beat the Knoxville Ice Bears, 2-1. Gingera scored on the power play at 8:57 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Columbus and again while 10:49 into the third to make the score 2-1 Columbus.Knoxville was stymied by Columbus' netminder Andrew Loewen, who stopped 29 shots during the victory. Loewen certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.03 entering the contest. The Cottonmouths' offense was clicking better than usual and put 37 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.3 shots per game they average. In addition, Columbus received assists from Neilsson Arcibal and Max Cook, who contributed one each. The 30 shots that the Ice Bears put on net surpassed Knoxville's average of 23.0 shots per game this season. The Ice Bears could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. Knoxville was led by Jarrett Rush, who scored the team's only goal. Rush scored on the power play 8:37 into the third period to make the score 1-1. The Ice Bears had taken the advantage when Columbus' Tyler MacPherson got sent off for hooking. Francis Drolet provided the assist. The Cottonmouths incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Braely Torris made 35 saves for Knoxville on 37 shots. The Ice Bears registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Knoxville, Ryan Salvis was ejected from the game.
