Fayetteville survives Louisiana comeback, wins 5-4Crown Coliseum Sat, Feb 07, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Louisiana IceGators tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Fayetteville FireAntz held on for a 5-4 victory. Fayetteville took a 5-3 lead during the third period, only to have Louisiana storm back on a Bret Peppler goal 19:08 into the third period to pull to one goal down. The FireAntz excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The 29 shots that Fayetteville put on net surpassed the FireAntz's average of 23.0 shots per game this season. Fayetteville surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the FireAntz average 2.6 goals per contest. Fayetteville was led by Corey Tamblyn, who had three goals. Fayetteville additionally got points from John Clewlow, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Matt Robertson also scored for Fayetteville. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Josh McQuade, who had two and Mike Kavanagh, Mike Montrose, Trever Hertz, and Jan Safar, who each chipped in one. The IceGators put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the FireAntz to score on any of their three power plays. With 34 shots on target during the contest, Louisiana exceeded the 19.9 shots it averages per game this year. The IceGators were led by Adam Stuart, who racked up two goals. Stuart scored the first of his two goals at 11:34 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Fayetteville. Jordan Ciccarello provided the assist. Stuart's next tally made the score 4-3 Fayetteville with 9:01 left in the third period. Peppler picked up the assist. Louisiana also got points from Peppler, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Louisiana also got a goal from Jeremy Boyer as well. More assists for Louisiana came via Chris Wilson, who had two and Clark Byczynski and Kirk Byczynski, who contributed one each. Kevin Murdock made 30 saves for Fayetteville on 34 shots. The FireAntz incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Louisiana took out Matt Zenzola after he had made 15 saves and installed Marco De Filippo in goal, where he finished with nine saves and the loss. The IceGators incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
