Louisiana downs Columbus in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Louisiana IceGators' Chris Wilson scored 4:51 into overtime to beat the Columbus Cottonmouths, 5-4 (OT).

Louisiana's penalty kill excelled, as the IceGators gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Louisiana was led by Wilson, who grabbed one goal and one assist.

With 44 shots on target during the contest, the IceGators exceeded the 17.1 shots they average per game this year.

Others who scored for Louisiana included Phil Bushbacher, Jake Hauswirth, Bret Peppler, and Mitchell Stretch, who each put in one. More assists for Louisiana came via Clark Byczynski, Tanner Burton, Jeremy Boyer, Adam Stuart, and Kirk Byczynski, who each chipped in one and Shawn McNeil and Jordan Ciccarello, who contributed two each.

Columbus got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game. The Cottonmouths put 40 shots on net during the contest, more than the 29.9 they average per game.

Columbus was helped by Andy Willigar, who had one goal. Willigar scored 6:05 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Columbus. Kyle Johnson assisted on the tally. Columbus additionally got points from Johnson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Columbus also had goals scored by Tyler MacPherson and Louis Belisle, who scored one goal each. In addition, Columbus received assists from Mike Switzer, Shawn Bates, and Max Cook, who each chipped in one and Craig Simchuk and Patrick McCadden, who contributed two each.

Marco De Filippo made 36 saves for Louisiana on 40 shots. The IceGators totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Louisiana ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyler Barr was ejected from the game. The Cottonmouths' Shannon Szabados stopped 39 shots out of the 44 that he faced. Columbus incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
