Huge game by Williamson boosts Columbus over Fayetteville, 8-0

Bryce Williamson had one goal and four assists to lead the Columbus Cottonmouths to an 8-0 victory over the Fayetteville FireAntz.

Williamson scored 1:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Columbus. Matt Gingera picked up the assist. Williamson dished an assist on Levi Lind's goal that made the score 2-0 Columbus at 13:26 into the first period. He then added assists on Gingera's goal at 3:47 into the second, on Gingera's goal at 16:34 into the second, and on Gingera's goal at 37 seconds into the third.

Andrew Loewen spearheaded the defensive effort for Columbus, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 31 saves for the shutout. Loewen managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.11 prior to the game.

The Cottonmouths stifled Fayetteville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Columbus' defensive effort looked to be improved. The Cottonmouths average 2.7 goals allowed per game. Columbus surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Cottonmouths average 3.0 goals per contest. The defensemen of Columbus were also effective in the FireAntz's zone, and came away with two goals. The Cottonmouths' offense was clicking better than usual and put 52 shots on goal during the game, better than the 31.3 shots per game they average.

Columbus also got points from Gingera, who also tallied three goals and one assist. Others who scored for Columbus included Louis Belisle, Patrick McCadden, and Mike Switzer, who scored one goal each. More assists for Columbus came via Tyler MacPherson, Andy Willigar, Neilsson Arcibal, and Max Cook, who contributed one each and Nick Curry and Shawn Bates, who each chipped in two.

Fayetteville's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The FireAntz surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. Fayetteville could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The FireAntz average 2.6 goals per game. Fayetteville's offense rang up 31 shots on Columbus' net.

The FireAntz were led by Jan Safar, who took four shots.

The Cottonmouths totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 3-for-7 on the power play. Jordan Tibbett rejected 44 shots on goal for Fayetteville. The FireAntz registered zero goals on five power play opportunities.
