Peoria's comeback falls short, Mississippi RiverKings wins 4-2

Mississippi RiverKings came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Peoria Rivermen, but did just enough to escape with a 4-2 victory.

Mississippi RiverKings led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Mississippi RiverKings' Paul Ciarelli scored at 15:39 in the second period to put Mississippi RiverKings up 3-0.

Ciarelli had a great game for Mississippi RiverKings, netting two goals.

Mississippi RiverKings' offense rang up 36 shots on Peoria's net.

Others who scored for Mississippi RiverKings included Reid Campbell and Leo Thomas, who scored one goal each. More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Bryon Paulazzo and Linden Bahm, who contributed one each and Joseph Holka and Ryan Marcuz, who each chipped in two.

The Rivermen stifled Mississippi RiverKings' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Peoria's offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 28.0 shots per game it averages.

The Rivermen were helped by Jordan Sims, who racked up one goal. Sims scored 8:06 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Mississippi RiverKings. Christian Weidauer picked up the assist. Jake Trask also scored for Peoria. In addition, Peoria received assists from Mike Gurtler and Garrett Vermeersch, who contributed one each.

Peter Di Salvo recorded 33 saves for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-7 on the power play. Dustin Carlson made 32 saves for Peoria on 36 shots. The Rivermen totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
