Huge game by Williamson boosts Columbus over Knoxville, 5-2

The Columbus Cottonmouths' Bryce Williamson had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 5-2 win over the Knoxville Ice Bears.

Williamson found the back of the net 12:52 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Columbus and again while 8:29 into the third to make the score 4-2 Columbus.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 20:00 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with five game misconducts.

Columbus excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The 44 shots that the Cottonmouths put on net surpassed Columbus' average of 29.9 shots per game this season.

Columbus additionally got points from Matt Gingera, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Nick Curry, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Shawn Bates, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were Kyle Johnson, Andy Willigar, Mike Switzer, and Neilsson Arcibal, who contributed one each.

Knoxville stifled the Cottonmouths' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Ice Bears relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Eric Satim, Josh Cousineau and Berkley Scott took 24 of the team's 39 shots.

Knoxville was helped by Brett Valliquette, who had one goal. Valliquette scored 4:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Knoxville. Cousineau assisted on the tally. Knoxville also got a goal from Robbie Donahoe as well. In addition, Knoxville received assists from Jason Price, Dennis Sicard, and Francis Drolet, who each chipped in one.

Shannon Szabados rejected 37 shots on goal for Columbus. The Cottonmouths totaled 38 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 0-for-3 on the power play. Team's Patrick McCadden and Will Aide were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Bryan Hince recorded 39 saves for the Ice Bears. Knoxville ended with 48 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. For the Ice Bears, Corey Fulton and Sicard were ejected from the contest.
