Pensacola wins tough contest against Fayetteville, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Pensacola Ice Flyers escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Fayetteville FireAntz.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Corey Banfield at 7:10 of the third period.

Pensacola was led by Banfield, who had one goal and one assist.

The 48 shots that the Ice Flyers put on net surpassed Pensacola's average of 24.6 shots per game this season.

Pensacola also got points from Adam Pawlick, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Pensacola also got a goal from Brett Lutes as well. More assists for Pensacola came via Nick Larson, who had two and Nick McParland and Justin Fillion, who each chipped in one.

Fayetteville relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as John Clewlow, Josh McQuade and Austin Daae took 13 of the team's 24 shots.

The FireAntz were helped by Trever Hertz, who registered one goal. Hertz scored 10:38 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Fayetteville. McQuade picked up the assist. Fayetteville additionally got points from McQuade, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were Corey Tamblyn, who had two.

Max Strang made 22 saves for the Ice Flyers on 24 shots. Pensacola incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Fayetteville's Jordan Tibbett stopped 45 shots out of the 48 that he faced. The FireAntz incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
