Louisiana uses early goal to top Huntsville, 4-2

Bret Peppler scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Louisiana IceGators held off the challenges of the Huntsville Havoc in a tough 4-2 win.

A goal 11:38 into the first period by Peppler proved to be the game winner, and powered Louisiana to the victory. Adam Stuart provided the assist.

Jake Hauswirth was all over the ice for the IceGators, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Hauswirth scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:27 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A goalie interference penalty on Lucas Van Natter had put Louisiana on the power play. Shawn McNeil picked up the assist. Hauswirth's next tally on the power play made the score 3-1 Louisiana with 15:52 left in the second period. Jeremy Boyer assisted on the tally.

The IceGators stifled Huntsville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. With 22 shots on target during the contest, Louisiana exceeded the 19.3 shots it averages per game this year.

Clark Byczynski also scored for Louisiana. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were August Aiken and Kirk Byczynski, who contributed one each.

By firing 46 shots on goal, the Havoc exceeded the 23.2 shots they average per game this year.

Huntsville was led by Jacob Johnstone, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Johnstone scored 1:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. Drew Akins picked up the assist. Huntsville also got a goal from Stuart Stefan as well. More assists for Huntsville came via Mark Anthoine, who had one.

Marco De Filippo made 44 saves for the IceGators on 46 shots. Louisiana totaled 34 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 1-for-2 on the power play. For the IceGators, Stuart was ejected from the game. Kevin Genoe recorded 18 saves for the Havoc. Huntsville totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 0-for-3 on the power play.
