Mississippi RiverKings uses early goal to top Huntsville, 2-1

Mississippi RiverKings took the lead against the Huntsville Havoc in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-1 victory.

A goal 2:35 into the first period by Linden Bahm proved to be the game winner, and powered Mississippi RiverKings to the victory. Leo Thomas picked up the assist.

Huntsville was stymied by Mississippi RiverKings' netminder Peter Di Salvo, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. Di Salvo managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.76 prior to the game.

Mississippi RiverKings was paced by Matt Whitehead, who registered one goal. Whitehead scored 12:36 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Mississippi RiverKings. Mike Grace assisted on the tally.

Mississippi RiverKings' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Huntsville power plays. Mississippi RiverKings relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Whitehead, Sean Jones and Thomas took 12 of the team's 23 shots.

By firing 27 shots on goal, the Havoc exceeded the 20.7 shots they average per game this year.

Huntsville was led by Colin Hekle, who scored the team's only goal. Hekle scored 17:37 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Mississippi RiverKings. Jarred Mohr picked up the assist.

Mississippi RiverKings totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. The Havoc's Kevin Genoe stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Huntsville ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major.
