Mississippi RiverKings downs Fayetteville in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

Leo Thomas gave Mississippi RiverKings a 6-5 (OT) victory over the Fayetteville FireAntz when he scored 2:27 into the extra period.

Mississippi RiverKings overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Mississippi RiverKings fell behind 3-0 after a goal by Fayetteville's Derek Elliott at 19:02 in the first period. Mississippi RiverKings tied things up at 5-5 on a goal by Trever Hertz at 17:28 in the third period.

Thomas had two goals and two assists to lead Mississippi RiverKings. Thomas scored the first of his two goals at 13:16 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Matt Whitehead picked up the assist. Thomas' next tally made the score 6-5 Mississippi RiverKings with 17:33 left in overtime. Mississippi RiverKings earned a power play opportunity when Mike Kavanagh was put in the box for hooking. Bryon Paulazzo assisted on the tally.

Mississippi RiverKings' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Fayetteville power plays. Mississippi RiverKings' goal total was higher than its season average. Mississippi RiverKings averages 2.7 goals per game. Mississippi RiverKings' offense was clicking better than usual and put 55 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.9 shots per game it averages.

Mississippi RiverKings also got points from Linden Bahm, who also had two goals and one assist. Others who scored for Mississippi RiverKings included Ryan Marcuz and Justin Gvora, who scored one goal each. More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Devin Mantha, Paul Ciarelli, Mike Hayward, and Andrew Randazzo, who each chipped in one.

The FireAntz racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Fayetteville surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. The FireAntz bested their season scoring average. This season, Fayetteville averages 2.7 goals per contest.

The FireAntz were helped by Kyle McNeil, who grabbed one goal and three assists. McNeil scored 16:42 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Fayetteville. Elliott picked up the assist. Fayetteville additionally got points from Elliott, who also registered two goals and two assists and Hertz, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Fayetteville also got a goal from Corey Tamblyn as well. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Austin Daae and Jan Safar, who contributed one each.

Peter Di Salvo made 10 saves before being replaced by Adam Courchaine, who took the win and made 12 saves. Mississippi RiverKings totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 3-for-9 on the power play. Fayetteville's Jordan Tibbett stopped 49 shots out of the 55 that he faced. For the FireAntz, Randy Cameron was ejected from the game.
