Mississippi RiverKings wins tough contest against Fayetteville, 5-3

Mississippi RiverKings and the Fayetteville FireAntz were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Mississippi RiverKings made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Bryon Paulazzo at 14:03 of the second period.

Fayetteville's power play was ineffective against Mississippi RiverKings' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Mississippi RiverKings was led by Paulazzo, who had one goal.

Mississippi RiverKings outdid its season average for goals scored. Mississippi RiverKings averages 2.7 goals per game. Mississippi RiverKings' offense was clicking better than usual and put 41 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.2 shots per game it averages.

Mississippi RiverKings also got points from Devin Mantha, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Linden Bahm, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Leo Thomas, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Mississippi RiverKings also got a goal from Justin Gvora as well. More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Reid Campbell, who had two and Mike Grace, Andrew Randazzo, and Sean Jones, who each chipped in one.

The FireAntz put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mississippi RiverKings to score on any of its six power plays.

Fayetteville was helped by Kyle McNeil, who finished with one goal. McNeil scored 7:29 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Fayetteville. Jan Safar picked up the assist. Others who scored for Fayetteville included Mike Kavanagh and Randy Cameron, who scored one goal each. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from John Clewlow, Matt Robertson, and Derek Elliott, who contributed one each.

Adam Courchaine rejected 25 shots on goal for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Curtis Martinu recorded 36 saves for the FireAntz. Fayetteville incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
