Louisiana falls to Pensacola after surprising comebackCajundome Sat, Jan 10, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Louisiana IceGators could not hold down the Pensacola Ice Flyers, and Ice Flyers erased a three-goal deficit en route to a 5-3 win. Pensacola never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Ice Flyers trailed 3-0 after a power play goal by Louisiana's Jeremy Boyer at 2:19 in the second period. Pensacola tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Phil Tesoriero at 13:39 in the third period. The Ice Flyers scored the game winner at 14:21 in the third period on a goal by Tesoriero. Pensacola got the win behind a great game by Nick McParland, who had two goals and one assist. McParland scored the first of his two goals at 15:54 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Louisiana. Adam Pawlick picked up the assist. McParland's next tally made the score 5-3 Pensacola with 1:05 left in the third period. Nick Lazorko assisted on the tally. Pensacola also got points from Pawlick, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Corey Banfield, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Brett Lutes and Brett Beebe, who contributed one each. The IceGators' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Pensacola power plays. Louisiana failed to reach its usual level of shot production, putting 16 pucks on goal after averaging 22.0 shots per game this season. Louisiana also got a goal from Bret Peppler as well. More assists for Louisiana came via Mitchell Stretch, who had two and Luke Kasteel, Benjamin Rubin, Tanner Burton, and Adam Stuart, who each chipped in one. The Ice Flyers' Max Strang stopped 13 shots out of the 16 that he faced. Pensacola ended with 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors. Marco De Filippo made 23 saves for the IceGators on 27 shots. Louisiana totaled 38 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play. The IceGators ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Burton was ejected from the game.
