Whitehead's goals lift Mississippi RiverKings to 3-1 victory over Peoria

Mississippi RiverKings relied on the scoring touch of Matt Whitehead, who netted two goals, to beat the Peoria Rivermen, 3-1.

Whitehead scored at 6:41 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Mississippi RiverKings and again while 19:07 into the third to make the score 3-1 Mississippi RiverKings.

Mississippi RiverKings relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Andrew Randazzo, Whitehead and Sean Jones took 13 of the team's 25 shots. Mississippi RiverKings' offense was helped by the efforts of its defensemen, who managed to put 11 shots on net during the game.

Mississippi RiverKings additionally got points from Linden Bahm, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi RiverKings were Mike Grace and Mike Hayward, who each chipped in one.

Peoria managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Rivermen ended up below its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game.

Peoria was led by Jake Trask, who scored the team's only goal. Trask scored on the power play 10:16 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Rivermen had gained a power play chance when Leo Thomas was whistled for high sticking. Josh Harris picked up the assist.

Mississippi RiverKings' Peter Di Salvo stopped 24 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Mississippi RiverKings incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Kyle Rank rejected 22 shots on goal for Peoria. The Rivermen registered one goal on two power play opportunities.
