Columbus boosted by Loewen's play in net, beats Pensacola 3-1

Andrew Loewen stood on his head and made 33 saves to lead the Columbus Cottonmouths to a 3-1 victory over the Pensacola Ice Flyers.

Columbus was paced by Neilsson Arcibal, who registered one goal. Arcibal scored on the power play 10:52 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Columbus. The Cottonmouths had taken the advantage when Pensacola's Keegan Flaherty got sent off for goalie interference. Bryce Williamson assisted on the tally.

Columbus excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Cottonmouths relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Williamson, Kyle Thomas and Max Cook took 15 of the team's 27 shots.

Columbus also got points from Matt Gingera, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were Louis Belisle and Levi Lind, who contributed one each.

The Ice Flyers were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and two majors for 56 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game Pensacola had been spending in the box. The Ice Flyers were held below their usual level of production. Pensacola averages 3.6 goals per game. The Ice Flyers' offense rang up 34 shots on Columbus' net.

Pensacola was led by Adam Pawlick, who scored the team's only goal. Pawlick scored 8:05 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Corey Banfield provided the assist.

The Cottonmouths totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 3-for-9 on the power play. The Ice Flyers' Max Strang stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Pensacola ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Phil Tesoriero was ejected from the game.
