The game between the Louisiana IceGators and the Columbus Cottonmouths was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Louisiana emerged with a 6-4 win. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Benjamin Rubin's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. The IceGators got the win on the strength of a great game by Jake Hauswirth, who had one goal and three assists. Hauswirth scored 14:23 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jeremy Boyer picked up the assist. Columbus' power play was ineffective against Louisiana's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. The IceGators' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Columbus power plays. The 27 shots that Louisiana put on net surpassed the IceGators' average of 23.3 shots per game this season. Louisiana surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The IceGators have scored at the pace of 3.1 goals per game during the current campaign. Louisiana also got points from Adam Stuart, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Louisiana also had goals scored by Bret Peppler and Kirk Byczynski, who scored one goal each. The IceGators totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Shannon Szabados recorded 21 saves for Columbus. The Cottonmouths ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
