Fayetteville beats Huntsville 4-2 after comeback scare

The Fayetteville FireAntz survived a determined comeback attempt by the Huntsville Havoc on the way to a 4-2 win.

Fayetteville made the score 4-1 on a goal by Matt Robertson at 14:21 in the third period, and Huntsville got as close as 4-2 when Jacob Johnstone scored 18:49 into the third period.

Robertson was all over the ice for the FireAntz, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Robertson scored the first of his two goals at 2:30 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Fayetteville. Robertson's next tally made the score 4-1 Fayetteville with 5:39 left in the third period. Fayetteville had gained a power play chance when Colin Hekle was whistled for hooking. Austin Daae assisted on the tally.

The FireAntz forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and four majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. Fayetteville surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. The FireAntz relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Robertson, John Clewlow and Zach Carriveau took 12 of the team's 22 shots.

Fayetteville also got a goal from Mike Kavanagh as well. More assists for Fayetteville came via Corey Tamblyn, Brad Drobot, and Jan Safar, who each chipped in one.

The Havoc's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled four minors and four majors for 28 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game Huntsville had been spending in the box. The Havoc put 41 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.6 they average per game.

Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Stuart Stefan, Drew Akins, Luke Greiner, and Ray Ortiz, who contributed one each.

Jordan Tibbett made 39 saves for Fayetteville on 41 shots. The FireAntz registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Kevin Genoe recorded 18 saves for Huntsville. The Havoc registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
