GAME RECAP

Fayetteville rides Murdock to victory over Huntsville, 3-1

Crown Coliseum    Wed, Dec 31, 2014

Kevin Murdock had a standout game with 38 saves, and the Fayetteville FireAntz beat the Huntsville Havoc 3-1.

Fayetteville was led by Matt Robertson, who grabbed one goal. Robertson scored on the power play 5:27 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Fayetteville. The FireAntz had gotten the advantage when Huntsville's Corey Bellamy was sent off for roughing. Jan Safar provided the assist.

Fayetteville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Havoc to score on any of their four power plays.

Others who scored for Fayetteville included Derek Elliott and Corey Tamblyn, who each put in one. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from John Clewlow, who had one and Mike Kavanagh and Austin Daae, who contributed two each.

Huntsville's penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to the FireAntz's power play unit. The Havoc's offense rang up 39 shots on Fayetteville's net.

Huntsville was led by Stuart Stefan, who scored the team's only goal. Stefan scored short handed 9:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. A illegal check to the head call on Bellamy put the Havoc on the penalty kill. Ray Ortiz picked up the assist.

The FireAntz incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Jesse Kallechy recorded 23 saves for Huntsville. The Havoc incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
