Mississippi RiverKings uses shootout to best Huntsville, 2-1 (1-0 SO)

Matt Harrington scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and Mississippi RiverKings picked up the extra point in a 2-1 (1-0 SO) win over the Huntsville Havoc.

The two teams needed nine turns to complete the shootout.

Mississippi RiverKings came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Mississippi RiverKings trailed 1-0 after a short handed goal by Huntsville's Luke Greiner at 17:37 in the first period. Mississippi RiverKings knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Matt Whitehead at 17:17 in the second period.

Mississippi RiverKings stifled the Havoc's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. With 49 shots on target during the contest, Mississippi RiverKings exceeded the 30.7 shots it averages per game this year.

Huntsville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. The Havoc average 24.9 shots on goal per game, but only sent 19 pucks on net against Mississippi RiverKings. Huntsville was often in penalty trouble, as it ended with eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time.

More assists for Huntsville came via Drew Akins, who had one.

Mississippi RiverKings' Adam Courchaine stopped 18 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Mississippi RiverKings ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Kevin Genoe recorded 47 saves for the Havoc. Huntsville registered zero goals on three power play opportunities.
