Peoria beats Huntsville 2-1 after comeback scare

The Huntsville Havoc tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Peoria Rivermen would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 2-1.

Peoria made the score 2-0 on a goal by Jordan Sims at 7:09 in the third period, and Huntsville got as close as 2-1 when Dane Erickson scored 12:01 into the third period.

The Rivermen were led by goalie Kyle Rank, who finished with 28 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Rank will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.34.

Nick Schneider also scored for Peoria. In addition, Peoria received assists from Josh Harris and Jake Trask, who contributed one each.

The Havoc's offense was clicking better than usual and put 29 shots on goal during the game, better than the 25.6 shots per game they average.

More assists for Huntsville came via Jarred Mohr and Jordan Foreman, who each chipped in one.

Peoria totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Jesse Kallechy rejected 25 shots on goal for Huntsville. The Havoc totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
