Peoria wins tough contest against Huntsville, 3-2

The Peoria Rivermen and the Huntsville Havoc were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Peoria made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Gabriel Levesque's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Huntsville's power play was ineffective against the Rivermen's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Peoria was led by Levesque, who had one goal and one assist. Levesque scored on the power play 12:09 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Peoria. The Rivermen earned a power play opportunity when Curtis Megginson was put in the box for hooking. Tyler Amburgey provided the assist.

Peoria stifled the Havoc's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 30 shots on goal, the Rivermen exceeded the 24.7 shots they average per game this year.

Peoria additionally got points from Amburgey, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Alec Hagaman also scored for Peoria. More assists for Peoria came via Josh Harris and Garrett Vermeersch, who contributed one each.

Huntsville's offense was clicking better than usual and put 34 shots on goal during the game, better than the 22.9 shots per game it averages.

The Havoc were helped by Jordan Foreman, who registered one goal. Foreman scored 19:34 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Ray Ortiz picked up the assist. Huntsville also got a goal from Drew Akins as well. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Stuart Stefan, Jarred Mohr, and Jacob Johnstone, who each chipped in one.

Kyle Rank recorded 32 saves for Peoria. The Rivermen incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Kevin Genoe made 27 saves for Huntsville on 30 shots. The Havoc incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
