Columbus downs Louisiana in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Columbus Cottonmouths pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Louisiana IceGators on a clutch goal by Kyle Thomas.

Although Columbus was up by as many as two goals in the second period, Louisiana kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The IceGators pulled to within 3-2 on a power play goal by Chris Wilson at 1:01 in the third period.

Matt Gingera had a great game for the Cottonmouths, netting two goals.

Columbus' offense was clicking better than usual and put 40 shots on goal during the game, better than the 28.3 shots per game it averages. The Cottonmouths found themselves short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing four power plays.

Columbus also got a goal from Chris Bailer as well. Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were Tyler MacPherson, Levi Lind, Neilsson Arcibal, Shawn Bates, Max Cook, and Bryce Williamson, who contributed one each.

By firing 35 shots on goal, Louisiana exceeded the 22.9 shots it averages per game this year.

The IceGators were led by Mitchell Stretch, who finished with one goal and one assist. Stretch scored 10:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Louisiana. Wilson picked up the assist. Louisiana also got points from Wilson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Adam Stuart also scored for Louisiana. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Matt Viola, Tanner Burton, and Mike MacIntyre, who each chipped in one.

Columbus' Shannon Szabados stopped 32 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Cottonmouths registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Marco De Filippo rejected 36 shots on goal for Louisiana. The IceGators incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
