Peoria falls to Fayetteville in overtime, 2-1 (OT)Crown Coliseum Fri, Dec 05, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fayetteville FireAntz pulled out a 2-1 (OT) overtime victory over the Peoria Rivermen on a clutch goal by Darcy Vaillancourt. Fayetteville was led by goalie Sean Bonar, who finished with 41 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Bonar will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 0.96 entering the contest. The FireAntz were sparked by Vaillancourt, who registered one goal. Vaillancourt scored 2:34 into overtime to make the score 2-1 Fayetteville. Derek Elliott provided the assist. Fayetteville racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The FireAntz surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. Fayetteville put 40 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.6 it averages per game. Fayetteville also got a goal from Corey Tamblyn as well. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Austin Daae, Kyle McNeil, and Zach Carriveau, who contributed one each. Peoria's offense was clicking better than usual and put 42 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.2 shots per game it averages. The Rivermen were led by Jake Trask, who scored the team's only goal. Trask scored on the power play 12:23 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Peoria had gotten the advantage when the FireAntz's Jan Safar was sent off for holding. Nick Schneider picked up the assist. Fayetteville registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Kyle Rank made 38 saves for the Rivermen on 40 shots. Peoria totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
