Louisiana rides De Filippo to victory over Huntsville, 2-1

Cajundome    Fri, Nov 28, 2014

A stellar performance between the pipes by Marco De Filippo helped the Louisiana IceGators defeat the Huntsville Havoc, 2-1.

Louisiana's penalty kill excelled, as the IceGators gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Louisiana was paced by Adam Stuart, who racked up one goal and one assist. Stuart scored short handed 6:23 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Louisiana. An interference call on Benjamin Rubin put the IceGators on the penalty kill. Shawn McNeil provided the assist.

Louisiana stifled Huntsville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The IceGators were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 19 penalty minutes. The defense for Louisiana played an important role offensively, racking up 10 shots on goal.

Louisiana also got a goal from Jason Cohen as well. More assists for Louisiana came via Mike MacIntyre and Mitchell Stretch, who contributed one each.

The Havoc forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Huntsville had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game.

The Havoc were led by Colin Hekle, who scored the team's only goal. Hekle scored 1:21 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville.

Marco De Filippo made 29 saves for the IceGators on 30 shots. Louisiana registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Huntsville's Jesse Kallechy stopped 22 shots out of the 24 that he faced.
