Knoxville uses shootout to best Fayetteville, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Travis Janke netted the deciding goal for the Knoxville Ice Bears in the shootout as Ice Bears prevailed over the Fayetteville FireAntz, 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams.

With 30 shots on target during the contest, Knoxville exceeded the 26.5 shots it averages per game this year.

The Ice Bears were helped by David Segal, who racked up one goal. Segal scored 6:57 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Knoxville. Peter Neal provided the assist. Knoxville also got points from Ryan Salvis, who also had one goal and one assist and Francis Drolet, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Knoxville also got a goal from Berkley Scott as well. More assists for Knoxville came via Jason Price, who had one and Eric Satim and Joe Tolles, who contributed two each.

Fayetteville stifled Knoxville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The FireAntz were hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled four minors and three majors for 23 minutes in penalty time. The 33 shots that Fayetteville put on net surpassed the FireAntz's average of 25.9 shots per game this season.

Fayetteville was helped by Zach Carriveau, who grabbed one goal. Carriveau scored 14:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fayetteville. Trever Hertz assisted on the tally. Fayetteville additionally got points from Derek Elliott, who also registered one goal and one assist and Hertz, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Randy Cameron also scored for Fayetteville. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were Austin Daae, who had two and John Clewlow, Darcy Vaillancourt, Jan Safar, and Ryan Hand, who each chipped in one.

Bryan Hince rejected 29 shots on goal for the Ice Bears. Knoxville totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and three majors and went 0-for-3 on the power play. Kevin Murdock recorded 25 saves for the FireAntz. Fayetteville registered one goal on one power play opportunities.
