Pensacola downs Huntsville in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

The Pensacola Ice Flyers pulled out a 6-5 (OT) overtime victory over the Huntsville Havoc on a clutch goal by Cody Ferriero.

Pensacola nearly gave up a two-score lead. The Ice Flyers made the score 4-2 on a goal by Drew Akins at 3:17 in the third period. Huntsville got to within 4-3 on a goal by Jarred Mohr at 3:45 in the third period.

Pensacola's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Ice Flyers average 2.0 goals allowed per game. Pensacola's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 22 shots between them. The Ice Flyers' offense was clicking better than usual and put 46 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.2 shots per game they average.

Pensacola also got points from Akins, who also registered one goal and one assist, Brett Lutes, who also had one goal and one assist, and Mitchell Good, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Pensacola included Jason Fabian and Adam Pawlick, who each put in one. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Brett Beebe, who had three and Drew Baker, Michael Budd, Steve Bergin, Corey Banfield, and Jeremy Gates, who each chipped in one.

The Havoc's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. The 43 shots that Huntsville put on net surpassed the Havoc's average of 30.2 shots per game this season.

Huntsville was led by Nick Lazorko, who finished with one goal and two assists. Lazorko scored 13:36 into the third period to make the score 5-5. Justin Cseter provided the assist. Huntsville additionally got points from Mohr, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Huntsville also had goals scored by Curtis Megginson, Ray Ortiz, and Corey Bellamy, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Nicholas Kuqali, Matt Robertson, Colin Hekle, and Jordan Foreman, who contributed one each.

Max Strang rejected 38 shots on goal for Pensacola. The Ice Flyers totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Kevin Genoe recorded 40 saves for the Havoc. Huntsville totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
