Mississippi RiverKings downs Columbus, 5-2

Justin Gvora racked up one point to lead Mississippi RiverKings to a 5-2 victory over the Columbus Cottonmouths.

Mississippi RiverKings outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, Mississippi RiverKings averages 2.7 goals per contest. With 43 shots on target during the contest, Mississippi RiverKings exceeded the 31.1 shots it averages per game this year.

Mississippi RiverKings also got points from Matt Whitehead, who also had one goal and one assist and Matt Harrington, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Mississippi RiverKings also had goals scored by Bryon Paulazzo and Paul Clancy, who scored one goal each. More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Devin Mantha, Mike Grace, Burke Gallimore, and Sean Jones, who each chipped in one.

Mississippi RiverKings was unable to stop Columbus from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cottonmouths eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Columbus was helped by Matt Gingera, who registered one goal. Gingera scored on the power play 19:34 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Cottonmouths had gotten the advantage when Mississippi RiverKings' Leo Thomas was sent off for cross checking. Nick Curry provided the assist. Columbus additionally got points from Louis Belisle, who also finished with one goal and one assist.

Peter Di Salvo made 33 saves for Mississippi RiverKings on 35 shots. Mississippi RiverKings totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Shannon Szabados rejected 38 shots on goal for Columbus. The Cottonmouths totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-2 on the power play.
