Pensacola squeaks by Louisiana, 4-2

The Pensacola Ice Flyers and the Louisiana IceGators were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Pensacola made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Corey Banfield secured the win for the Ice Flyers with a goal in the third period.

Paul Rodrigues had a great game for Pensacola, netting two goals. Rodrigues' tallies came at 13:16 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola and on the power play 19:03 into the second to make the score 3-1 Pensacola.

The Ice Flyers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Pensacola put 34 shots on net during the contest, more than the 30.4 it averages per game.

Pensacola also got points from Banfield, who also had one goal and one assist. Adam Pawlick also scored for Pensacola. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Daniel Sova, who had two and Drew Akins, Phil Tesoriero, Brett Lutes, Mitchell Good, and Cody Ferriero, who contributed one each.

Louisiana relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Shawn McNeil, Adam Stuart and Tanner Burton took 13 of the team's 25 shots.

The IceGators were helped by Chris Wilson, who finished with one goal. Wilson scored 9:14 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Pensacola. Bret Peppler picked up the assist. Louisiana also got a goal from Benjamin Rubin as well. More assists for Louisiana came via Jason Cohen and Jeremy Boyer, who each chipped in one.

The Ice Flyers' Max Strang stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Pensacola incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Andrew Flemming rejected 30 shots on goal for Louisiana. The IceGators incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
