Huntsville rips Louisiana, 5-1

The Huntsville Havoc were firing on all cylinders against the Louisiana IceGators, and when the final buzzer sounded Havoc emerged with a 5-1 win.

Huntsville was led by goalie Kevin Genoe, who finished with 30 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Genoe will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

The Havoc were led by Mike Henderson, who tallied one goal and one assist. Henderson scored 19:46 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Huntsville. Corey Bellamy assisted on the tally.

Huntsville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Louisiana to score on any of its four power plays. The Havoc's offense rang up 33 shots on the IceGators' net.

Huntsville also got points from Mike Gurtler, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Jacob Johnstone, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Huntsville included Nick Lazorko and Colin Hekle, who scored one goal each. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Stuart Stefan, who had one.

Louisiana excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The IceGators were held below their usual level of production. Louisiana puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. The IceGators forced Huntsville goalie Genoe to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Louisiana was led by Kirk Byczynski, who took four shots.

The Havoc incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Marco De Filippo made 28 saves for the IceGators on 33 shots. Louisiana ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. The IceGators ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Adam Stuart was ejected from the game.
