Peoria uses early goal to top Huntsville, 3-1

The Peoria Rivermen took the lead against the Huntsville Havoc in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-1 victory.

Matt Summers provided Peoria with the game-winning tally when he scored 3:03 into the first period. Ben Warda picked up the assist.

The Rivermen's Eric Levine was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 35 saves and let only one puck past him. Despite the solid performance, Levine will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

Peoria's penalty kill excelled, as the Rivermen gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

Peoria was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 27 penalty minutes.

The Rivermen were helped by Jake Trask, who racked up one goal. Trask scored 46 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Peoria. Peoria also got a goal from Jordan Sims as well. In addition, Peoria received assists from Mike MacIntyre, who had one and Shawn Skelly, who had two.

Peoria was unable to stop Huntsville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Havoc eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. Huntsville struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 49 penalty minutes for five opposing power plays.

The Havoc were led by Jordan Foreman, who scored the team's only goal. Foreman scored on the power play 16:07 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Peoria. Huntsville had gained a power play chance when Skelly was whistled for interference. Brad Schuler provided the assist.

Jesse Kallechy made 27 saves for the Havoc on 30 shots. For Huntsville, Foreman was ejected from the game.
