Port Hope squeaks by Amherstview, 4-2Jack Burger Sports Complex Wed, Jan 07, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Port Hope Panthers gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Amherstview Jets. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Chandler Gillespie's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Port Hope was led by Gillespie, who had one goal. Gillespie scored 14:39 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Port Hope. Shawn Mackie provided the assist. In the losing effort, Amherstview was paced by Zach Masterson, who grabbed two goals. Masterson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:04 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Jets had gained a power play chance when Dan Lagrois was whistled for roughing. Dorian Overland picked up the assist. Masterson's next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Amherstview with 11:56 left in the second period. Amherstview had gotten the advantage when the Panthers' Rory Milne was sent off for tripping. Port Hope kept the Jets' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Kaszuba made 30 saves on 34 shots. Port Hope additionally got points from Tyler Davey, who also registered one goal and one assist and Mackie, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Port Hope also got a goal from Hunter Baker as well. In addition, Port Hope received assists from Cameron McGill, Jacob Spicer, Chays Ruddy, Nathan Snoek, Kallen McFarland, and Alec Brown, who contributed one each. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstview were Cosimo Morin, who had one. Brown recorded 22 saves for the Panthers. Port Hope incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Amherstview incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. |
