Port Hope beats Picton 4-2 after comeback scare

The Port Hope Panthers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Picton Pirates on the way to a 4-2 win.

A goal by Hunter Baker put Port Hope up 4-1 in the third period, but Picton pulled to within two on Austin Labelle's tally 19:47 into the third period.

The Panthers were sparked by Dan Lagrois, who grabbed one goal. Lagrois scored 7:33 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Port Hope. Baker picked up the assist.

Port Hope's offense rang up 38 shots on the Pirates' net.

Port Hope additionally got points from Baker, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Port Hope included Jacob Spicer and Rory Milne, who scored one goal each. More assists for Port Hope came via Connor Turland, Cameron Lowery, Tyler Davey, Nathan Snoek, and Kallen McFarland, who contributed one each.

Picton kept the Panthers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Branson Schell made 39 saves on 41 shots.

The Pirates were helped by Chris Jones, who had one goal. Jones scored 46 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-1 Port Hope. In addition, Picton received assists from Curtis Colbary and Brian Bunnett, who each chipped in one.

Port Hope totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Panthers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dylan Baxter was ejected from the game. Nick Kazmierczak recorded 34 saves for Picton.
