Port Hope blows out Amherstview, 9-3

The Port Hope Panthers had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 9-3 win over the Amherstview Jets.

Port Hope got the win behind a great game by Jacob Spicer, who had two goals and two assists. Spicer scored the first of his two goals at 11:32 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Port Hope. Mike Smith assisted on the tally. Spicer's next tally made the score 7-3 Port Hope with 17:08 left in the third period. The Panthers played down a man on Dylan Baxter's high sticking. Cameron McGill picked up the assist.

Amherstview's power play was ineffective against Port Hope's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Panthers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Amherstview power plays. The Jets were unable to stop Port Hope from sending pucks towards the net, and the Panthers eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Port Hope outdid its season average for goals scored. The Panthers have scored at the pace of 5.9 goals per game during the current campaign.

Port Hope also got points from McGill, who also tallied two goals and one assist, Rory Milne, who also had one goal and one assist, Chandler Gillespie, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Smith, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Port Hope also had goals scored by Tyler Davey and Shawn Mackie, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Port Hope were Nathan Snoek, who had three and Jordan Leigh, Brandon Baks, and Kallen McFarland, who contributed one each.

Amherstview was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 24 penalty minutes.

The Jets were helped by Cosimo Morin, who tallied one goal. Morin scored 6:06 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Port Hope. Dorian Overland provided the assist. Amherstview also got a goal from Cam Blakeley as well. More assists for Amherstview came via Ben Bianco, who had two and Adam Alcorn and Zach Masterson, who each chipped in one.

Port Hope's Branson Schell stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Panthers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Ryan Kaszuba made 25 saves for Amherstview on 34 shots.
