Port Hope pulls away in second, rolls over Deseronto, 8-0Jack Burger Sports Complex Sat, Nov 01, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Deseronto Storm was within striking distance after one period, but the Port Hope Panthers put the pedal down in the second en route to an 8-0 victory. Dylan Baxter had two goals and one assist to lead Port Hope. Baxter scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Hope. A roughing penalty on Brett Bateman had put the Panthers on the power play. Tyler Davey provided the assist. Baxter's next tally on the power play made the score 7-0 Port Hope with 6:48 left in the second period. Davey assisted on the tally. Port Hope pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 35 penalty minutes. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:44 into the third period. Port Hope's defense was surprisingly good. The Panthers average 2.3 goals allowed per game. Deseronto was unable to stop Port Hope from sending pucks towards the net, and the Panthers eventually piled up 57 shots on goal. Port Hope also got points from Dan Lagrois, who also racked up two goals and one assist. Others who scored for Port Hope included Hunter Baker, Liam Rowe, Rory Milne, and Jordan Leigh, who scored one goal each. More assists for Port Hope came via Nathan Snoek, who had three, Connor Turland, Cameron Lowery, and Shawn Mackie, who each chipped in one, and Jacob Spicer and Kallen McFarland, who contributed two each. The Storm forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 41.0 minutes per game Deseronto had been spending in the box. The Storm's offense operated below their season average. Deseronto puts an average of 2.2 pucks into the net per game. Port Hope's Branson Schell stopped 17 shots out of the 17 that he faced. The Panthers registered three goals on 12 power play opportunities. Port Hope ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Chays Ruddy was ejected from the game. Matt Loveys rejected 49 shots on goal for the Storm. For Deseronto, Chris Rogalsky was ejected from the game.
