Port Hope survives penalties, beats Amherstview, 5-2

Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Port Hope Panthers were able to defeat the Amherstview Jets, 5-2.

Port Hope was led by Dan Lagrois, who finished with one goal and one assist. Lagrois scored 19:01 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Port Hope. Jacob Spicer picked up the assist.

The Panthers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

Port Hope also got points from Tyler Davey, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Port Hope also had goals scored by Connor Turland, Cameron Lowery, and Rory Milne, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Port Hope were Kallen McFarland, who had two and Matthew Hunt, Cameron McGill, Dylan Baxter, and Chandler Gillespie, who each chipped in one.

Amherstview stifled Port Hope's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jets kept the Panthers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Branson Schell made 33 saves on 35 shots. Amherstview found itself short handed often, totaling 38 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays.

The Jets were led by Jordan Howe, who tallied two goals. Howe scored the first of his two goals at 8:44 into the third period to make the score 5-1 Port Hope. Jesse Stone assisted on the tally. Howe's next tally made the score 5-2 Port Hope with 9:54 left in the third period. Amherstview had gained a power play chance when Lowery was whistled for goalie interference. Zach Masterson picked up the assist. In addition, Amherstview received assists from Adam Alcorn, who had one.

The Jets' Graeme Gemmill-Peters stopped 20 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Amherstview registered one goal on eight power play opportunities.
