Napanee squeaks by Deseronto, 5-3Deseronto & District CC Fri, Oct 17, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Napanee Raiders escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Deseronto Storm. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Austin Boulard secured the win for Napanee with a goal in the second period. The Raiders got the win with help from a great game by Boulard, who had two goals and one assist. Boulard scored the first of his two goals at 9:30 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Nicolas Schuler assisted on the tally. Boulard's next tally made the score 3-2 Napanee with 4:12 left in the second period. Josh St.Peter picked up the assist. Napanee's penalty kill excelled, as the Raiders gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays. Napanee stifled Deseronto's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Raiders' offense rang up 60 shots on the Storm's net. Others who scored for Napanee included Jag Masters, Troy Wylie, and Mitchell Merry, who each put in one. More assists for Napanee came via Zack Revell, Mitch Pearce, and Jordan Cannons, who each chipped in one. Deseronto's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on nine Napanee power plays. The Storm forced Napanee goalie Sam McDonald to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Deseronto was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 31 penalty minutes. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The Storm were helped by Brett Maracle, who racked up one goal. Maracle scored 8:50 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Deseronto. Brodie Maracle assisted on the tally. Deseronto additionally got points from Bobby Breadman, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Logan Elliott also scored for Deseronto. In addition, Deseronto received assists from Chase Dowdle, Chris Rogalsky, Jared Boomhower, and Mitchell Thompson, who contributed one each. Sam McDonald made 28 saves for the Raiders on 31 shots. Napanee ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major. For the Raiders, Schuler was ejected from the game. Deseronto's Matt Loveys stopped 55 shots out of the 60 that he faced. The Storm ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Maracle was ejected from the game.
