Napanee falls apart in second, loses to Port Hope, 7-3Deseronto & District CC Sat, Oct 11, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Port Hope Panthers scored four goals in the second period to pull away from the Napanee Raiders and clinch a 7-3 win. Port Hope's penalty kill excelled, as the Panthers gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:03 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Port Hope was often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. The Panthers surpassed its season average of 28.0 penalty minutes per game. Port Hope forced Napanee goalie Sam McDonald to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. The Panthers were helped by Kallen McFarland, who grabbed two goals. McFarland scored the first of his two goals at 1:23 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Port Hope. Connor Turland picked up the assist. McFarland's next tally made the score 6-2 Port Hope with 3:21 left in the second period. Dylan Baxter provided the assist. Port Hope additionally got points from Baxter, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Chandler Gillespie, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Rory Milne also scored for Port Hope. Other players who recorded assists for Port Hope were Jacob Spicer, who had two, Cameron Lowery, who had three, and Cameron McGill, Tyler Davey, and Shawn Mackie, who contributed one each. The Raiders racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game Napanee had been spending in the box. The Raiders were helped by Will Peirson, who registered one goal. Peirson scored 12:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Napanee. Adam Bennett assisted on the tally. Napanee also had goals scored by Kyle Murphy and Christian Antoski, who scored one goal each. In addition, Napanee received assists from Brodie Butt, who had one. Branson Schell made 21 saves for Port Hope on 24 shots. The Panthers registered three goals on nine power play opportunities. Port Hope ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and McFarland was ejected from the game. McDonald recorded 28 saves for Napanee. For the Raiders, Murphy was ejected from the game.
