Deseronto downs Napanee in overtime, 5-4 (OT)Strathcona Paper Tue, Oct 07, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Jared Boomhower gave the Deseronto Storm a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Napanee Raiders when he scored 2:36 into the extra period. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:26 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Deseronto was relatively well disciplined in the game, receiving only seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Storm stayed under their season average of 41.0 penalties minutes per game this season. Deseronto's offense rang up 52 shots on Napanee's net. The Storm found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Deseronto has scored at the pace of 2.5 goals per game during the current campaign. The Storm were led by Mitchell Thompson, who had two goals. Thompson scored the first of his two goals at 17 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Deseronto. Tyler Diamond assisted on the tally. Thompson's next tally made the score 2-0 Deseronto with 17:17 left in the first period. Brett Bateman picked up the assist. Deseronto also got points from Devin MacLean, who also registered one goal and one assist and Brodie Maracle, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Deseronto were Chris Rogalsky, who had one and Johnny Maracle, who had two. The Raiders forced Deseronto goalie Matt Loveys to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Napanee was led by Austin Boulard, who racked up two goals. Boulard scored the first of his two goals at 19:29 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Deseronto. Zack Revell provided the assist. Boulard's next tally made the score 2-2 with 11:04 left in the second period. A roughing penalty on Bobby Breadman had put the Raiders on the power play. Jag Masters picked up the assist. Napanee also had goals scored by Mason Conley and Cullen Hinds, who scored one goal each. In addition, Napanee received assists from Kyle Murphy and Troy Wylie, who each chipped in one. Matt Loveys made 33 saves for the Storm on 37 shots. Deseronto registered two goals on six power play opportunities. For the Storm, Thompson was ejected from the game. Tomo Mikuljan recorded 47 saves for Napanee. The Raiders totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Napanee ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Michael Parr was ejected from the game.
