Port Hope penalty kill dominates in 7-1 defeat of Amherstview

The Amherstview Jets failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Port Hope Panthers shook off a number of penalties to win, 7-1.

Port Hope was led by Dylan Baxter, who tallied one goal and one assist. Baxter scored short handed 4:06 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Port Hope. A slashing call on Matthew Hunt put the Panthers on the penalty kill. Tyler Davey picked up the assist.

Port Hope kept Amherstview's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Kaszuba made 36 saves on 43 shots. The defense for the Panthers tightened up when they had players in the penalty box, as it let in one goal on 12 the Jets power plays. Port Hope was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 48 penalty minutes.

Port Hope additionally got points from Cameron Lowery, who also registered one goal and one assist, Dan Lagrois, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Chandler Gillespie, who also had one goal and one assist. Port Hope also got a goal from Kallen McFarland as well. In addition, Port Hope received assists from Hunter Baker, who had two and Connor Turland, Cameron McGill, Jacob Spicer, and Rory Milne, who each chipped in one.

Amherstview's offense operated below its season average. The Jets average 4.0 goals per game. Amherstview could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 50 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Jets were led by Ryan Hutchinson, who scored the team's only goal. Hutchinson scored on the power play 10:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Amherstview. Amherstview earned a power play opportunity when Baxter was put in the box for cross checking. Max Brunner provided the assist.

Branson Schell rejected 24 shots on goal for the Panthers. Port Hope registered three goals on nine power play opportunities.
