Wheatley rips Mooretown, 5-1

The Wheatley Sharks had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Mooretown Flags.

Wheatley was led by Brett Bowman, who grabbed one goal. Bowman scored 15:04 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wheatley. Matt Taylor provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 11:45 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Mooretown was unable to stop the Sharks from sending pucks towards the net, and Wheatley eventually piled up 41 shots on goal.

Wheatley additionally got points from Devin Shannon, who also registered one goal and one assist. Wheatley also got a goal from Lucas Raffoul as well. More assists for Wheatley came via Riley Enns, who had two and Mike Reid, Scott Florence, and Nolan Gardiner, who each chipped in one.

The Flags' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. Mooretown had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Flags' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Wheatley power plays.

Mooretown was led by Dan Lumley, who scored the team's only goal. Lumley scored 11:19 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wheatley. Austin Hewton picked up the assist.

Conner MacKinnon made 19 saves for the Sharks on 20 shots. Wheatley ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Sharks, Gardiner was ejected from the game. The Flags' Brandon Johnson stopped 36 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Mooretown registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. The Flags ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alec Segers was ejected from the game.
