Blenheim holds on for 3-2 win against Mooretown

The Blenheim Blades survived a determined comeback attempt by the Mooretown Flags on the way to a 3-2 win.

Blenheim made the score 3-1 on a goal by Nolan VandenBoorn at 17:43 in the second period, and Mooretown got as close as 3-2 when Frankie White scored 12:52 into the third period.

The Blades' penalty kill excelled, as Blenheim gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Others who scored for Blenheim included Dylan Smith and Tyler Boughner, who scored one goal each. In addition, Blenheim received assists from Matt Clark, Brayden Seliga, Derek Muzzatti, Corbin Hagerman, and Teddy McGeen, who contributed one each.

The Flags managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Mooretown finished below its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. The Blades were unable to stop the Flags from sending pucks towards the net, and Mooretown eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Mooretown also got a goal from Austin Hewton as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mooretown were Sam Jasmin, who had two and Ben Morrison and Dan Lumley, who each chipped in one.

Klinton Kenney made 32 saves for Blenheim on 34 shots. The Blades incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Flags' Brandon Johnson stopped 19 shots out of the 22 that he faced.
