Essex uses shootout to best Dresden, 5-4 (3-2 SO)GLJHL Head Office Wed, Jan 21, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Essex 73s defeated the Dresden Kings in a shootout 5-4 (3-2 SO). The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Dresden got shootout goals from Dillon Liberty and Derek Shaw. In addition to the clincher, Essex got shootout goals from William Stadder and Tyler Scott.The 73s saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Essex made the score 4-2 on a goal by Daniel McIntyre at 18:56 in the second period. The Kings evened things up at 4-4 on a goal by Derek Daly at 19:38 in the third period. The 73s' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Essex finished with 30 penalty minutes. Others who scored for Essex included Adam Gaiarin and Stadder, who scored one goal each. More assists for Essex came via Matthew Rosati, Nick Mainella, Jordan Ryan, Anthony Cristofaro, Daniel Slipchuk, and Dallas Pereira, who contributed one each. Dresden's offense rang up 31 shots on the 73s' net. The Kings were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of 10 man advantages. Dresden also had goals scored by Jim McKinlay and Kevin Ritzer, who each put in one. In addition, Dresden received assists from Ross Krieger, who had three and Dede Cato, Liberty, Shaw, Will Tetzlaff, and John Montgomery, who each chipped in one. Noah Hedrick made 27 saves for Essex on 31 shots. The 73s registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Daniel Tonietto recorded 24 saves for Dresden. The Kings incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
