Dresden survives Wallaceburg comeback, wins 5-3

The Dresden Kings came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Wallaceburg Lakers, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

Dresden led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Kings' John Montgomery scored on the power play at 4:38 in the third period to put Dresden up 4-1.

Montgomery had two goals to lead the Kings to victory.

Dresden's penalty kill excelled, as the Kings gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Wallaceburg was unable to stop Dresden from sending pucks towards the net, and the Kings eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Dresden additionally got points from Dede Cato, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Derek Daly, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Dresden also got a goal from Dillon Liberty as well. More assists for Dresden came via Steven Funk, who had two and Kevin Ritzer, Derek Shaw, Ross Krieger, DJ Sapone, and Macks Holmes, who contributed one each.

The Lakers forced Dresden goalie Daniel Tonietto to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Wallaceburg was led by Ryan Gruszka, who had two goals and one assist. Gruszka scored the first of his two goals short handed at 18:37 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Dresden. The Lakers were on a disadvantage when Jacob Theoret went off the ice for high sticking. Gruszka's next tally short handed made the score 4-2 Dresden with 15:05 left in the third period. Lucais Meyskens provided the assist. Wallaceburg also got points from Meyskens, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Wallaceburg received assists from Trevor Waller, who had one.

The Kings' Tonietto stopped 32 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Dresden incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Kings, Will Tetzlaff was ejected from the game. Scotty Gray rejected 32 shots on goal for Wallaceburg. The Lakers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
