Amherstburg holds on for 4-3 win against Essex

The Essex 73s tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Amherstburg Admirals held on for a 4-3 victory.

A goal by Marshal Laing put Amherstburg up 4-1 in the second period, but Essex pulled to within one on Daniel Slipchuk's tally 19:57 into the third period.

The Admirals' penalty kill excelled, as Amherstburg gave up one goal despite allowing 12 power plays.

The Admirals could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Amherstburg was helped by Luke Gangnon, who grabbed one goal. Gangnon scored on the power play 13:59 into the first period to make the score 1-1. An interference penalty on Matthew Hebert had put the Admirals on the power play. Curtis Prymack picked up the assist. Amherstburg also got points from Laing, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Amherstburg also had goals scored by Blake Rutckyj and Mark Gangnon, who scored one goal each. In addition, Amherstburg received assists from Cody Leeming, who had two and James Brooks and Jordan Luciw, who each chipped in one.

Amherstburg was unable to stop the 73s from sending pucks towards the net, and Essex eventually piled up 51 shots on goal.

Others who scored for Essex included Matthew Rosati and William Stadder, who each put in one. More assists for Essex came via Jordan Ryan, who had two and Nick Mainella, Tyler Turner, and Daniel McIntyre, who contributed one each.

Arren Romeril recorded 48 saves for the Admirals. Amherstburg registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The Admirals ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Steven Spada was ejected from the game. The 73s' Noah Hedrick stopped 24 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Essex incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
