Alvinston completes comeback, beats Amherstburg, 7-6GLJHL Head Office Fri, Dec 12, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Alvinston Flyers rallied from two goals down to secure a 7-6 win over the Amherstburg Admirals. Alvinston let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Flyers took a 1-0 advantage on a short handed goal by Hunter Bryce at 2:58 in the first period. Alvinston went down 3-1 after Amherstburg's Steven Spada put the puck home at 8:13 in the first period. After tying things up at 6-6 on a power play goal by Mark Gangnon at 9:39 in the third, the Flyers got the game-winner from Joe Archer at 18:07 in the third period. Archer was all over the ice for Alvinston, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Archer scored the first of his two goals at 18:36 into the first period to make the score 4-4. Archer's next tally made the score 7-6 Alvinston with 1:53 left in the third period. The Flyers kept the Admirals' goalie busy throughout the game, and Arren Romeril made 27 saves on 34 shots. Alvinston's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Flyers average 3.6 goals per contest. Alvinston additionally got points from Zach VanEyk, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Kole Keating also scored for Alvinston. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Clint Rose, who had two and Karsten Berg and Kirklin Dorman, who each chipped in one. Alvinston was unable to stop Amherstburg from sending pucks towards the net, and the Admirals eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. Amherstburg also got points from James Brooks, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Amherstburg also got a goal from Cody Leeming as well. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstburg were Brett Banwell, Marshal Laing, Ryan Alexander, Jordan Luciw, and Luke Gangnon, who contributed one each and Mark Sobocan and Dan Matoski, who each chipped in two. The Flyers' Brett Avery stopped 33 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Alvinston incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Flyers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Josh Moore was ejected from the game. Amherstburg incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Admirals, Spada and Laing were ejected from the contest.
