Blenheim shrugs off penalties, upends Wallaceburg, 4-1

Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Blenheim Blades were able to defeat the Wallaceburg Lakers, 4-1.

Blenheim was led by Kellen Kaniecki, who tallied one goal. Kaniecki scored 39 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Blenheim. Lucas Hickey assisted on the tally.

The Blades put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wallaceburg to score on any of its seven power plays. Blenheim forced the Lakers goalie Joel Sowinski to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots. The Blades could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Dylan Muzzatti also scored for Blenheim. Other players who recorded assists for Blenheim were Jordan Durston, who had two, Derek Muzzatti, who had three, and Bryan Boersma and Nolan VandenBoorn, who contributed one each.

Wallaceburg excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

The Lakers were led by Matt Clark, who scored the team's only goal. Clark scored 14:25 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Blenheim. Alex Ritchie picked up the assist.

Blenheim's Eric Stewardson stopped 20 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Sowinski recorded 44 saves for Wallaceburg. The Lakers incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
