VanEyk nets hat trick, leads Alvinston to 8-3 win over Mooretown

A hat trick by Zach VanEyk was the highlight in Flyers' 8-3 win against the Mooretown Flags.

VanEyk's first goal came 6:07 into the first period. He then added goals at 16:47 into the first and at 14:08 into the third.

Mooretown trailed by one after the first period, but the Alvinston Flyers went into the second intermission with a 7-3 lead and never looked back.

The Flags' 12 penalties came back to haunt them, as Mooretown let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Alvinston kept the Flags' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Johnson made 35 saves on 43 shots. The Flyers found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Alvinston averages 3.5 goals per contest.

Alvinston additionally got points from Joe Archer, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Alvinston included Karsten Berg, who had two and Jeremy VanDeven and Kirklin Dorman, who scored one goal each. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Cole Harris, Brady Swan, Eric Marsh, Josh Moore, Jordan Hayes, and Kole Keating, who contributed one each and Clint Rose and Chad Rainsberry, who each chipped in three.

Mooretown was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and one major for 67 minutes in penalty time. The Flags had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Mooretown was helped by Alec Segers, who tallied one goal. Segers scored 13:31 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Jeff Williams assisted on the tally. Mooretown also got points from Ryan Lyle, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Brent Blais, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Mooretown came via Aiden Chapdalaine, Austin Hewton, and Frankie White, who contributed one each.

Cam MacAlpine rejected 21 shots on goal for the Flyers. Alvinston ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For the Flyers, Hunter Bryce was ejected from the game. The Flags registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For Mooretown, Taylor Declercq and White were ejected from the contest.
