Amherstburg boosted by Donato's play in net, beats Alvinston 4-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Gianfranco Donato helped the Amherstburg Admirals defeat the Alvinston Flyers, 4-1.

Amherstburg's penalty kill excelled, as the Admirals gave up one goal despite allowing 10 power plays.

Amherstburg was led by Cody Leeming, who registered one goal. Leeming scored 9:48 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Amherstburg. Dean Patterson picked up the assist.

The Admirals kept Alvinston's goalie busy throughout the game, and Cam MacAlpine made 28 saves on 32 shots. Amherstburg could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Amherstburg also got points from Brett Beattie, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Amherstburg also had goals scored by James Brooks and Ryan Alexander, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstburg were Steven Spada, Mark Gangnon, Luke Gangnon, and Chad Copeland, who contributed one each.

The Flyers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Admirals to score on any of their four power plays. Alvinston was held below its usual level of production. The Flyers put an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. Alvinston forced Amherstburg goalie Donato to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots.

The Flyers were led by Kole Keating, who scored the team's only goal. Keating scored on the power play 4:16 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Amherstburg. Alvinston had taken the advantage when the Admirals' Spada got sent off for high sticking. Eric Marsh provided the assist.

Donato rejected 48 shots on goal for Amherstburg. The Flyers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
