Blenheim wins tough contest against Dresden, 4-2

The game between the Blenheim Blades and the Dresden Kings was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Blenheim emerged with a 4-2 win.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Bryan Boersma's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The Blades' penalty kill excelled, as Blenheim gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Blades were paced by Boersma, who had one goal. Boersma scored on the power play 14:34 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Blenheim. Blenheim had taken the advantage when Dresden's Dillon Liberty got sent off for hooking. Derek Muzzatti provided the assist.

The Blades stifled the Kings' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Blenheim kept Dresden's goalie busy throughout the game, and Scott Tricker made 34 saves on 38 shots.

Others who scored for Blenheim included Mike Myers, Jarrod Oliphant, and Hunter Burk, who scored one goal each. In addition, Blenheim received assists from Dylan Smith, who had two and Jordan Durston, Kirk McKillop, Kellen Kaniecki, Blair Derynck, and Corbin Hagerman, who contributed one each.

The Kings' offense rang up 31 shots on the Blades' net. Dresden could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Kings were helped by Ross Krieger, who racked up one goal. Krieger scored 18:04 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Dresden. Liberty assisted on the tally. Dresden also got a goal from Kevin Ritzer as well. Other players who recorded assists for Dresden were Derek Daly, who had one.

Klinton Kenney rejected 29 shots on goal for Blenheim. The Blades incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
