Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Blenheim Blades defeated the Wallaceburg Lakers in a shootout 6-5 (2-0 SO). The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout. Blenheim also got a shootout goal from Derek Muzzatti.The Blades overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Blenheim trailed 2-0 after a goal by Wallaceburg's Cory Lucier at 13:26 in the first period. The Blades tied things up at 5-5 on a goal by Dylan Smith at 16:43 in the third period. Teddy McGeen had two goals and one assist to lead Blenheim. McGeen scored the first of his two goals at 2:10 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Blair Derynck assisted on the tally. McGeen's next tally made the score 4-3 Blenheim with 6:16 left in the second period. An interference penalty on Connor Johnston had put the Blades on the power play. Bryan Boersma picked up the assist. Blenheim's goal total was higher than its season average. The Blades have scored at the pace of 3.3 goals per game during the current campaign. Blenheim also got points from Boersma, who also had one goal and one assist, Smith, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Derynck, who also registered one goal and two assists. In addition, Blenheim received assists from Lucas Hickey, Nolan VandenBoorn, and Kellen Kaniecki, who contributed one each. The Lakers outdid their season average for goals scored. Wallaceburg averages 2.5 goals per game. The Lakers were led by Matt Clark, who registered two goals and two assists. Clark scored the first of his two goals at 1:21 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wallaceburg. Trevor Waller provided the assist.
