Ryan nets hat trick, leads Essex to 6-3 win over Amherstburg

Jordan Ryan lifted the Essex 73s to a 6-3 victory with a hat trick against the Amherstburg Admirals.

Ryan got on the scoresheet 9:40 into the first period. He then added goals at 2:43 into the second and at 15:43 into the third.

Essex's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game the 73s had been spending in the box. Essex's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Amherstburg power plays. The 73s' offense rang up 38 shots on Amherstburg's net.

Essex also had goals scored by Tyler Scott and Phil Janikowski, who scored two goals each. In addition, Essex received assists from Adam Gaiarin, William Stadder, Scott Bromley, Patrick Cuffaro, and Drew Hull, who each chipped in one.

The Admirals racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and two majors for 50 minutes in penalty time. Amherstburg surpassed its season average of 31.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Admirals were led by James Brooks, who had two goals. Brooks scored the first of his two goals at 49 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Amherstburg. Mark Gangnon picked up the assist. Brooks' next tally made the score 6-3 Essex with 5:52 left in the third period. Jordan Luciw assisted on the tally. Amherstburg also got a goal from Brett Beattie as well. More assists for Amherstburg came via Cody Leeming, Spencer McConville, and Dean Patterson, who contributed one each.

Noah Hedrick recorded 22 saves for Essex. The 73s registered two goals on 11 power play opportunities. Essex ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dan Mainella was ejected from the game. Amherstburg's Arren Romeril stopped 32 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Team's Steven Spada and Gangnon were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
